Why cloud backup is vital to security

Are your customers convinced about cloud backup?

You may well have an interesting mix of customers. Some might know all about data, others might be a little less informed.

Whatever your customers’ level of knowledge, one thing is clear, the data needs of organisations are growing and becoming more complex. Ensuring ‘it’s backed up’ is a vital element of any business strategy.

As an IT expert you’ll be aware of the increasing popularity of using the cloud over traditional off-site backups. But in the event your customers need a little more persuading, our latest article outlines some very good reasons for joining those flocking to the cloud.

You’ll be well versed in everything to do with IT, but do your customers get the finer points of cloud data storage?

At BOBcloud, we pride ourselves on our knowledge, seven day support, and we like to be helpful. So to make your job a bit easier, we’ve put together a list of the reasons why backing-up to the cloud is a great idea – just what your customers might need to hear.

Why should anyone back up to the cloud?

1. Backing up to the cloud saves money. There’s no need to invest in and install expensive equipment; plus it does away with ongoing maintenance and service charges. And the pricing structure means that you usually don’t have to pay for anything up front (certainly the case with Microsoft Azure, who we use) and storage easily grows as your data needs grow.

2. Using the cloud is easy: it’s a simple way to keep another backup off-site. And it’s much quicker to retrieve information than requesting tapes from an offsite location, where they run the risk of being lost or stolen. The data is centralised so it’s more straightforward to retrieve: anyone in the organisation can speedily and securely access information.

3. Cloud backup is a reliable way of protecting your data. Multiple copies are made to give complete peace of mind that nothing will ever be lost. This has a positive benefit for a company’s disaster recovery and business continuity – you know your data is safe. Whereas if you keep a few hard drives in a safe in the office and disaster strikes, your backed-up data is lost.

4. For extra security, data is encrypted before being transmitted securely to an offsite data centre. The decryption key resides with you, our customer. Such safeguards are more advanced than an unencrypted on-site data storage and recovery systems. The high level of security with the cloud means it’s well protected against cyberattacks.

5. The cloud saves you time – because backup is automatic, it doesn’t require an additional investment of time each month to manually organise. And freeing up IT resources allows an organisation to focus on more long-term, strategic initiatives, instead of focusing on the day-to-day management of data.

6. Cloud based backup solutions offer enterprise scale capacities, therefore easily supporting the highly sophisticated applications of large organisations.

7. Cloud computing services are regularly updated and enhanced, so you will always get the very best in service. This is certainly true if you’re one of our customers who currently benefits from Microsoft Azure’s cloud services.

8. Data that’s been created in the cloud can’t be backed-up by traditional data protection solutions. As more organisations adopt SaaS (Software as a Service) based applications, cloud backup is the way forward for looking after this kind of data.

Get in touch if you would like us to tell you more about the cloud backup service we offer, Microsoft Azure. Or if there’s anything else you need to convince your customers to go with the cloud – we’re always happy to help.
