Ahsay version 6 is being retired

v6 retired

Updated 2nd October 2018

**ACTION IS REQUIRED**

If you have v6 accounts running after 1st November 2018 without a migration order in place, they will be subject to extra pricing if they are still in your portal. This is in response to resellers who still need to operate v6.
See option 5 below.

Further to our previous update, Ahsay will cease support for v6 on 31-12-2018.
v6 has been in production for more than 8 years.
Because Ahsay won’t be releasing any new modules, all support on v6 will be on a ‘best-endeavours’ basis.
Ahsay releases v8 in early 2019 and all accounts running v7 will be automatically upgraded and licensed in the future.
This is the last time a manual migration \ upgrade will be required.
All new v7 data will be stored on Microsoft’s cloud [Azure].

How to check which version are you using

You can check the version each account is using from their customer page in your reseller portal.
Clusters b20.data-stor.net and upwards use v7, all others use v6.

v6 or v7 ?

Upgrade options after 01-09-2018

1) Continue using v6

– If you want to continue using v6, you will need to buy a breakout base server or desktop license from Ahsay because their monthly meter service is ending on 1st November. We will also move your data to Microsoft’s cloud [Azure].

– Breakout licenses require a one-time payment of 6 months usage. Normal monthly charges also apply.
Example: A server license will require a breakout license purchase of £39 and the usual £6.50 per month charge thereafter. Advanced modules such as Exchange mailbox and VMware will be charged in addition to the base server or desktop license.

– Storage charges will be 10p per GB, and this will be discounted if you have more than 10 accounts with us. v6 can only be stored on a drive letter and Azure charge more for drives than for their ‘blob’ cloud storage. New v7 accounts are stored in ‘blobs’.

– V6 will let you run multiple devices under a single account.

– Backup history will be retained and 3 copies of your data will be stored on Azure.

– Azure is the World’s most trusted cloud and is GDPR compliant.

V6 will not be supported by Ahsay after 31-12-2018, but will continue to run if a breakout license is purchased.

2) Upgrade to v7

– If you want to upgrade to v7, you will need to buy a breakout license from Ahsay because their monthly meter service is ending on 1st November.

– Breakout licenses require a one-time payment of 6 months usage. Normal monthly charges also apply.

Example: A server license will require a breakout license purchase of £39 and the usual £6.50 per month charge afterwards.

– Storage charges will be 10p per GB, and this will be discounted if you have more than 10 accounts with us. v6 can only be stored on a drive letter and Azure charge more for drives than for their ‘blob’ cloud storage. New v7 accounts are stored in ‘blobs’.

– V7 requires every device to have its own license.

– We will migrate your data in the v6 format and upgrade it to v7 afterwards.

– Backup history will be retained.

– Azure is the World’s most trusted cloud and is GDPR compliant.

3) Install a new v7 account in place of v6

– Recreate your existing v6 account on v7
– Breakout licenses are not required, and normal monthly charges apply.
– Backup history will NOT be retained.

*****

Where requested to do so, we will move all data to Microsoft’s Azure cloud in the UK.
Because we are moving data from our Reading DC to Microsoft’s cloud, this could take a period of days and is dependent on how much data each account has. During this time, your backups will be disabled, so we recommend you plan your upgrade ASAP.
New installations of v7 can be stored in any of the Azure regions we support. The default is the UK.

4) Take your data with you

If you don’t want to stay with us, we can upload your data to your own server. Ahsay will provide you with the licenses and support you require. There will be an admin charge for this service.

5) Do nothing

Some resellers have asked us to increase the lifecycle of v6 into 2019.
We can’t change the licensing or support agreements set by Ahsay, but we can still provide a platform for v6.

If you don’t place a migration order before 1st November 2018 your accounts and data will be moved to our other network in our Reading data centre. There will be some downtime during this period.

We are unable to delete any v6 accounts from your portal. If they are not required after 1st November 2018, you must delete them to prevent any further charges. v6 accounts on our platform after 1st November will be charged as follows.

New costs will apply:
Annual breakout license: This will be equivalent to 12 months of the previous month’s cost for each account. All devices will be billed for a base desktop or server license.
Storage: 20p per GB

Going ahead

Ahsay release v8 early 2019 and all accounts running v7 will be automatically upgraded.

FAQs

Should I upgrade?
Yes. v7 data is stored three times on Microsoft’s cloud [Azure]. The primary storage destination is in the UK, and other regions can be selected worldwide.
– v7 has more features than v6 and allows you to backup to your own cloud or server storage anywhere in the world.
– You can view the v6 Vs v7 comparisons on reasons to upgrade on Ahsay’s site

File history (not available for accounts migrated after 1st September 2018)
We will retain your existing v6 data until 1st January 2021 for free so you can restore historical data.
This data won’t be live and there will be a nominal restore fee.
